American Birkebeiner Ski Foundation

Membership in the Foundation

The American Birkebeiner® Ski Foundation is a membership based organization that is governed by Non-profit Foundation By-laws.

Membership in the American Birkebeiner® Ski Foundation offers you the opportunity to support the largest cross-country ski marathon in North America as well as a variety of ski activities and programs for adults and children throughout the year. Your membership is also an investment in one of the most scenic and beautiful recreational forest trails in the country.

Length of Membership

Membership in the American Birkebeiner® Ski Foundation annually expires on March 31st.

Annual Membership Fees

Annual membership is a very affordable way to support the Foundation:

  • Single Membership $25
  • Family Membership $40
  • Business Membership $50

Mission Statement

The mission of the American Birkebeiner Ski Foundation is:

  • to promote and conduct the finest international cross country ski competition,
  • to serve as good stewards of the American Birkebeiner Trail, and
  • to support healthy and active lifestyles among skiers of all ages.

Board Nomination Packets

Candidates interested in running for the Board of Directors may state there intent in the Spring/Summer of each year. All candidates must submit a completed Candidate Profile. It is very helpful if you submit the profile in electronic format. It can be addressed to ned@birkie.com.

In addition, all non-incumbent candidates must submit a Nomination Endorsement form that contains a minimum of ten signatures from current ABSF members.

All application materials are due in the ABSF office approximately 5 weeks prior to the Annual Meeting which is the second Saturday in August.
 



American Birkebeiner® Ski Foundation Voting Rights


ARTICLE II, Section 3:
ABSF By-laws: Responsibilities and Voting Rights of Members.
(b) Each member who has paid dues as required under Section 2 at least 30 days prior to the annual meeting each year in which voting takes place shall be entitled to vote on any matter submitted to a vote of the members as a whole. The voting rights of each membership category shall be as follows:

Individual – one vote
Family – two votes
Business – one vote

No person shall have more than one vote.

Effective December 21, 2009 the above language (words that are  crossed out) was removed from the by-laws by the Board of Directors.

You may become a member or renew membership up to the day of the Annual Meeting and be allowed to participate in the vote for Board members.  Please see additional information in the column to the right.

Absentee & Annual Meeting Voting Procedures


ARTICLE II, Section 4
:
Absentee Ballots
(a)Twenty-eight (28) days prior to the Annual Meeting, every current paid member will be sent a packet of information including a Board Candidate ballot and an envelope in which to return the ballot. The member’s name must appear on the front of the envelope for voter registration tabulation purposes only. The actual vote ballot(s) can be returned either signed or unsigned. Completed ballots must be returned to the American Birkebeiner® office by 4 p.m. of business close on the Friday before the Annual Meeting. Members not wishing to vote by absentee ballot can vote in person at the Annual Meeting.

Any membership received between the time the ballots are mailed and the Monday prior to the Annual Meeting will be mailed the packet of information.  Again, ballots must be received in the office by the Friday before the meeting or members may vote in person at the meeting.
